The Acorn Arts Centre is a small, independently run arts venue with charitable status, in the heart of Penzance, Cornwall. In 1987 the trustees of Cornwall Theatre Company Ltd., a small scale touring theatre company, took over the assets and liabilities of the near defunct Penzance Arts Centre. Their aim was to increase and expand the audiences of the old arts centre by injecting a new enthusiasm for the arts into the community and widening the spectrum of arts provided.
Penlee House, Penzance, is the only Cornish public gallery specialising in the Newlyn School artists (c.1880 - c.1940) including Stanhope and Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley, Harold Harvey and Laura Knight. Set in an elegant Victorian house and park, Penlee House also covers West Cornwall's archaeology and social history, and offers an excellent café and shop.
The Penlee Gallery is a gallery and a museum of Cornish classic art the Newlyn and Lamorna Schools of Art take up most of the gallery space there. Their community arts project arent on at the moment due to the retirement odf their previous community arts manager, it will be open again soon though.
